🕃 The Holy Great-Martyr Marina; Blessed Hieromartyr Pavlo Hoydych, Bishop of Pryashiv.

    VESPERS ON TUESDAY EVENING

    Kathisma Reading

    The appointed psalms are chanted.

    At Psalm 140

    Tone 8

If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.

O all-glorious wonder!* He who exalted himself in his pride* and said that he would destroy the earth and the sea* have you, a young and most immaculate maiden,* humbled to the ground, vanquishing his wiles.* O, the power of the Cross and grace* which has manifestly made firm all weakness for us!

I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.

From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.

O all-praised martyr Marina,* neither the fire of torment, nor the enjoyment of food,* nor the joys of this world, nor the beauty of youth* were able to separate from thy love for Christ* you who desired to obtain the beauty of your honoured Bridegroom* which passes all understanding.* And you were counted worthy of it, O divinely blessed one.

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.

O most glorious martyr Marina,* who have rightly made your abode in the mansions of heaven* with the ranks of virgins and the armies of the martyrs:* by your prayers save them who with faith keep your memory* and faithfully have recourse to your protection;* and ask of God remission of sins, deliverance, and great mercy.

Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.

    Tone 2, Glory…

Let us listen to the praise of the holy virgin* who, having kept her lamp ever burning,* has made her abode in the city of our God, in His holy mountain.* O the virginity of the Church of God!* O virginity, glory of martyrs!* O virginity, shared by the angels!

    Now…

Beholding You nailed to the tree of the Cross, O Jesus,* she who knew not wedlock said, weeping:* “O my sweet Child, unapproachable Light of the all-unoriginate Father,* wherefore have You forsaken me who alone gave You birth?* But make haste and glorify Yourself, that those who glorify Your divine sufferings* may receive divine glory!”

    Prokeimenon, Tone 1

Your mercy, O Lord, shall follow me* all the days of my life.

verse: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. In green pastures He gives me repose.

    Aposticha

    Tone 7

No longer are we forbidden the Tree of life,* for we have Your Cross as our hope.* О Lord, glory be to You!

I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.

Suspended upon the Tree, О Immortal One,* You broke the snares of the devil.* О Lord, glory be to You!

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.

Caring nothing for all the things of earth, О holy martyrs,* and having manfully preached Christ at the tribunal,* you received from Him rewards for your torments;* but as you have boldness, beseech Him,* as the almighty God, that He save the souls of us who flee to you, we pray.

    Tone 2, Glory…

With a voice of joy and an exclamation of psalmody* let us hymn the martyr Marina;* for she cast down to the earth the falsehood of idolatry* and manfully trampled the adverse foe under her feet.* Wherefore, in dying she has taken wing to the heavens,* bearing a crown upon her head and crying aloud:* “I desire You, O my Bridegroom,* and having the love of desire, I have committed my flesh to the fire for You,* that I may dwell in Your everlasting mansions,* where the abode is of those who rejoice!”

    Now…

When the unblemished ewe-lamb beheld her Lamb led, of His own will,* as a man to the slaughter, she said, weeping:* “Do You hasten now to leave me childless who gave You birth, O Christ?* What is this You have done, O Deliverer of all?* Yet will I hymn and glorify Your utter goodness* which passes understanding and recounting,* O You who loves mankind!”

    Troparia

    Tone 4

Your lamb, Marina, O Jesus, cries in a loud voice:* “You, O my Bridegroom, I love; and, seeking You, I undergo martyrdom.* And with You I am crucified and buried in Your baptism,* and I suffer for Your sake that I may reign with You.* And I die on Your behalf that I may live in You.* Receive me as a spotless sacrifice,* sacrificed for You with love.”* Through her intercession in Your mercy save our souls.

    Glory… Now…

O Virgin, all immaculate Mother of Christ God,* a sword pierced your all-holy soul* when you saw your Son and God willingly crucified.* Therefore, O blessed One,* never cease to pray to Him* that He may grant us forgiveness of our sins.

    DIVINE LITURGY ON WEDNESDAY MORNING

    Troparia and Kontakia

Troparion, Tone 4: Your lamb, Marina, O Jesus, cries in a loud voice:* “You, O my Bridegroom, I love; and, seeking You, I undergo martyrdom.* And with You I am crucified and buried in Your baptism,* and I suffer for Your sake that I may reign with You.* And I die on Your behalf that I may live in You.* Receive me as a spotless sacrifice,* sacrificed for You with love.”* Through her intercession in Your mercy save our souls.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen.
