🕃 The Holy Hieromartyr Cyprian; Holy Martyr Justina; Holy Andrew, Fool for the Sake of Christ.

    Saint with six stichera

    VESPERS ON TUESDAY EVENING

    Kathisma Reading

    The appointed psalms are chanted.

    At Psalm 140

    Tone 6

If You mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?* But with You forgiveness is that You may be revered.

Through the anointing of the priesthood and the blood of martyrdom,* you drew near to God, most perfect and all-glorious Cyprian!* You are the flower of nature;* the adornment of preaching, the summit of wisdom and a rule of true dogmas,* a harmonizer of the canons:* you are the splendour of the churches!

I have waited for You as You have commanded; my soul patiently relies on Your promise,* for it has trusted in the Lord.

From the morning watch until night* let Israel trust in the Lord.

Most honourable Cyprian, glory of athletes and crown of martyrs:* by your sermons you persuaded the divinely wise* to maintain their courage most valiantly* in the face of imprisonment, bondage and varied tortures,* nakedness, binding and bitter cold,* with wounding and death at the end.

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him there is plentiful redemption;* and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Praise the Lord, all the nations;* proclaim His glory, all you people.

You are the splendour of virgins and martyrs, Justina!* You opposed the spells of demons with hymns to the Spirit!* By the sign of the Cross, you preserved your virginity,* offering yourself to Christ as a most holy sacrifice!* You are an unconquered martyr,* receiving the crowns of victory!

Strong is the love of the Lord for us;* eternally will His truth endure.

    Tone 2, Glory...

Most blessed Cyprian, you turned aside indeed* from the falsehood and lore of idolatrous teaching!* You armed yourself for salvation with the sword of the Cross,* throwing away the books of sorcery as you put off the old man!* The knowledge of the consubstantial Trinity lived within you!* with the angels, ever beseech Him, O bishop, that we may be saved!

    Now…

Beholding You nailed to the tree of the Cross, O Jesus,* she who knew not wedlock said, weeping: *O my Child most sweet, why have You left me alone who gave You birth?* O unapproachable Light of the all-unoriginate Father, make haste and be glorified,* that those who glorify Your divine sufferings may receive divine glory!

    Aposticha

    Prokeimenon, Tone 1

Your mercy, O Lord, shall follow me* all the days of my life.

verse: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. In green pastures He gives me repose.

    Aposticha

    Tone 2

О Christ God my Saviour, who saved Peter in the sea,* save me by the power of the Cross,* and have mercy on me.

I have lifted up my eyes to You enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us.

Those who ever enjoyed Your gifts cried out, “Crucify Him!”;* those who slew the righteous ones asked that a malefactor be given to them in place of the Benefactor.* But You kept silence, О Christ,* enduring their savagery, desiring to suffer and thus save us,* in that You love mankind.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud.

The choirs of the martyrs opposed the tyrants, saying:* “We fight for the King of hosts!* And even if you have subjected us to fire and tortures,* we will not reject the power of the Trinity!”

    Tone 2, Glory...

Let us praise Cyprian, the divinely shining lamp,* the converser with Paul and sharer of his labours!* He dwells with the angels;* having received an incorruptible crown from the one God.* He ever prays that our souls may be saved!

    Now…

When the unblemished ewe-lamb beheld her Lamb* led of His own will as a man to the slaughter, she said, weeping:* Do You now haste to leave me childless who gave You birth, O Christ?* What is this that You have done, O Deliverer of all?* Yet I hymn and glorify Your utter goodness, which passes understanding and recounting,* O You who loves mankind!

    Troparion

    Tone 4

Having shared the way of life of the apostles,* and having become a successor to their thrones,* labouring you found the divinely inspired way to contemplation.* Therefore, forthrightly ministering the word of truth,* you shed your blood for the faith, O hieromartyr, Cyprian.* Intercede with Christ our God for the salvation of our souls.

    Glory… Now…

O Virgin, all immaculate Mother of Christ God,* a sword pierced your all-holy soul* when you saw your Son and God willingly crucified.* Therefore, O blessed One,* never cease to pray to Him* that He may grant us forgiveness of our sins.

    DIVINE LITURGY ON WEDNESDAY MORNING

    Troparia and Kontakia

Troparion, Tone 4: Having shared the way of life of the apostles,* and having become a successor to their thrones,* labouring you found the divinely inspired way to contemplation.* Therefore, forthrightly ministering the word of truth,* you shed your blood for the faith, O hieromartyr, Cyprian.* Intercede with Christ our God for the salvation of our souls.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen.

Kontakion, Tone 4: Having piously lived among the hierarchs,* and having trod the path of suffering,* you extinguished the sacrifices to idols* and were a defender for your flock, O godly one.* Therefore, venerating you, we sincerely cry to you:* “Rescue us from dangers by your prayers, O our father, Cyprian.
